Will Samsung’s rumored Exynos 2200 challenge Apple’s M1 chip?

Samsung would work on its next-generation mobile chip, the Exynos 2200, to compete with Apple’s M1. The Exynos processor has often lagged behind in performance compared to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. According to unnamed industry sources, Samsung is working on a new Exynos system-on-a-chip that can be used in both smartphones and laptops, according to Korean Economic Daily. Samsung typically relies on Intel processors for its laptops and convertibles, such as the new Galaxy Book 360. However, its Galaxy Book S uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx processor, a more powerful version of the chips used in mobile phones, which means it’s powerful enough to handle a basic Windows laptop while still providing exceptional battery life. Although Qualcomm’s 8cx does not yet deliver the performance of Intel processors, it has made progress. If the Exynos 2200 can compete with the third generation 8cx, that will represent a big performance leap for Samsung’s silicon.

Last year, Samsung said it was teaming up with AMD to include advanced graphics technology in its processors.
