Samsung launches production of 120 Hz LTPO displays for Apple iPhone 13
Samsung and LG have both started production of super high-end 120Hz displays for Apple’s next-generation iPhone 13 smartphones.
Apple’s high-end iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones are said to get Samsung’s top-of-the-line 120Hz LTPO displays, while the regular iPhone 13 will have an LG display and stay in the 60Hz club. .
The new displays of course have Apple’s best buzzwords, which they say are more “technologically sophisticated” than the panels used on the current generation iPhone 12 family of handsets. Switching to LTPO technology will allow Apple to take advantage of energy savings, where it can individually illuminate the pixels on the screen in relation to the entire screen. This will result in great energy savings on the new iPhone.
Apple uses LTPO technology inside its Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6 smartwatches, with their functionality always on thanks to the screen’s ability to illuminate individual pixels. The new iPhone 13 is expected to have similar still-active features, so expect big things when phones come in 2022.
The company also just used the latest Mini LED display technology inside its new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It’s great to see Apple continue to push the boundaries with display technology in its devices – large (iPad) and small (iPhone, Watch).
