Nvidia could release two GeForce RTX 3050 GPUs with different amounts of VRAM

It’s getting tough to keep up with Nvidia’s RTX 3000 lineup, whether we’re talking about the best graphics cards or the company’s budget options. However, it looks like Nvidia is planning to add not one but two GPUs to its product stack. According to the material leaker Kopite7Kimi, there will be two versions of the RTX 3050 with a few key differences.
A card with 8GB of VRAM and another with 4GB could be in the works (for whatever reason), reminiscent of the 6GB and 3GB GTX 1060s. Since this GPU will likely target the low end of the market, it is surprising that Nvidia doesn’t just release the 4GB version, as that’s a lot of VRAM for 1080p games.
The other key differences between these RTX 3050 graphics cards are in their GPU model and the number of CUDA cores. The 8 GB version will supposedly use a GA6-150 chip and contain 2,560 CUDA cores, while the 4 GB version will use a slightly scaled-down GA106-140 with 2,304 CUDA cores. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to say what impact these differences will have on gaming performance until we can get our hands on both RTX 3050s.
There are some, like Sebasti66855537, who believe that these two cards could in fact be the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti. However, given the paucity of details on the RTX 3050 Ti, it’s possible that the GPU suffered the same fate as the indefinitely delayed RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 3080 12GB.
If you’ve given up on any idea of buying a graphics card in 2021, then why not take your chances and win one instead? You’ll need a GPU that supports Nvidia Reflex, but if your goal is precise enough, you can get an RTX 3080.
