NVIDIA CMP 100HX is the repurposed Volta GV100 GPU for the crypto mining segment
NVIDIA appears to be repurposing its data center-specific GV100 Volta GPUs for the crypto mining segment in the form of CMP 100HX. NVIDIA’s 12nm Volta chip was the first to use Tensor Cores, specially developed cores with a special deep learning implementation over standard CUDA cores.
NVIDIA to Expand Hand in Crypto-Mining CPU Market with CMP 100HX Using Volta GV100 GPU
NVIDIA unveils the company’s compute accelerator for crypto mining companies. The company’s new graphics card reportedly offers an identical PCB layout to the Titan V. The Titan V is the only consumer model the company has launched with the Volta GV100 GPU featuring display outputs. The CMP 100HX seems to lack display outputs but offers 2×8 pin power connectivity. The photos first appeared on the PC_Shopping forums via Twitter leaker @KOMACHI_ENSAKA.
VideoCardz notes that the original PC_Shopping thread doesn’t show a card image but says comparisons to the CMP 100HX look very similar. NVIDIA’s new card offers a passive design, which suggests it shouldn’t be used in a PC setup but preferably in a server setting or, in this case, a graphics card cluster for crypto mining designs. . The crypto mining card additionally offers the NV-Link connector, which seems out of place as it is not used properly in the digital mining currency.
The CMP 100HX is claimed to deliver nearly 81 MH/s and only use 250W of power consumption, sharing similar power consumption to the Titan V. The unknown equation for the card is whether it will share similar memory configurations as the Titan. a, which offers 12 GB of HBM2 memory. NVIDIA is notorious for reducing the memory size of the company’s CMP line.
During NVIDIA’s quarterly earnings call for 2021, the company revealed that the CMP industry has been in decline for most of 2021, starting in the second quarter.
