NFL Week 17: News from the first games and open discussion thread
Eagles (8-7) to football team (6-9)
The Eagles and 49ers are sixth and seventh in the NFC playoff table, with the Vikings, Falcons and Saints one game behind. The Eagles really need a win here with the Cowboys coming to town next week.
Washington is the last team to have a chance to advance to the playoffs. Get a win today and go get 8th in the Giants next week and make about 20 other things go well, and their entry.
Rams (11-4) vs. Ravens (8-7)
The Rams have clinched a playoff berth, but have a chance at No.1 in the NFC or a chance the Cardinals can pass them. Winning this week or next against the 49ers keeps AZ at bay, wins both and puts pressure on GB to do the same.
The Ravens sit tenth in the AFC, but no one can guess if nine wins will be enough at this point. My bet is that the Ravens only get one more win, they would rather win next week against the Steelers.
Buccaneers (11-4) at Jets (4-11)
The Buccaneers are still chasing the top spot and are expected to end the season 13 wins after defeating the Panthers again next week, but in Tampa this time around.
The Jets have a tenuous grip on the third pick in next spring’s draft and head to Buffalo next week with a first-place shot.
dolphins (8-7) at Titans (10-5)
Right now the Dolphins are in the playoffs, I’m not sure they will always be after finishing at home next week against the Patriots *.
The Titans are chasing the Chiefs (11-4) and are looking for 13 wins after their trip to Houston next week.
Jaguars (2-3) vs. Patriots * (9-6)
The Jaguars have a stranglehold on the No.1 pick who doesn’t seem to be slacking off with a Colts team coming to town next week to fight for a playoff berth.
The * could end today at # 3 or # 10. My guess is closer to 3 and I will want to get another win next week in Miami.
Raiders (8-7) vs. Colts (9-6)
The Raiders are in 8th place with a chance to return to the playoff table, but have a tall order at Indy and against the Chargers next weekend.
The Colts are within reach for the Titans and a win here and at the Jaguars next week could put pressure on them for the AFCS crown.
Chefs (11-4) to Bengals (9-6)
The Chiefs come in as AFC leaders, will they still be next week when they go to Denver next Sunday?
The Bengals could put themselves in a position to clinch the AFC’s top spot with a win here and next week in Cleveland.
Giants (4-11) vs. Bear (5-10)
The Giants currently have the fourth pick next spring, a win here or next weekend against WFT could move them to eight or ninth.
The Bears hold the No.7 pick but appear to be trying to set up something this season, that something could be tested in the Vikings next week.
Falcons (7-8) to Bills (9-6)
The Falcons are in the herd of NFC teams battling for the final two playoff spots and will face another from that group next week against the Saints.
The Bills are within # 1 range in the AFCE, but a win here and against the Jets next week to prevent the Patriots * from regaining the AFCE lead.
Let’s sit down and enjoy the first few games and the conversation with other Steelers fans.
