New Halo Infinite roadmap targets online co-op in August
It’s been a long wait for Halo Infinite’s co-op campaign, and we’ve still got another summer to wait before it arrives. A Halo Infinite blog post published on Friday explains what to expect for the rest of 2022, starting with the launch of Season 2 on May 2.
Campaign co-op now has an “end of August target”, putting it in the middle of Season 2. Infinite’s second season runs until November 7, which is unusually long for a live service game . The blog post emphasizes that 343’s highest priority remains the health of its developers and getting “into a pace of sustainable development so that we can deliver great experiences to all of you while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.” .
“We know we need to deliver more content and more features faster. Staying true to priority zero means we sometimes have to slow down in order to stay healthy and go faster later. But we’re also actively looking for ways to speed up,” the post says.
Campaign co-op was promised for Season 2 when Halo Infinite released last year, so it’s essentially hitting the mark, even if the season is running longer than expected. However, it won’t arrive fully formed in August: Network play will be available first, with split-screen at a later date in Season 3. And the August date of network co-op is listed as a “target”, which 343 describes as dates which “will become more certain with time”. It’s not quite a lock yet.
The good news, however, is that Forge could arrive before its original schedule in Season 3, but again with a caveat: it’s slated for an open beta targeting September. 343 explains that the goal is to get Forge into the hands of players faster so custom maps can start making their way into multiplayer:
“We’ve had success using Forge in private flight with a limited audience for some time, so we’ve decided to forego a formal full-scale flight program and go straight to open beta. With this approach, we can getting the basic Forge tools to everyone faster while staying focused on our main priority of continuing to improve core aspects of Halo Infinite Forge will persist from Open Beta, evolving and growing over time.
In addition to Forge and online co-op, Season 2 includes new game modes, two new maps, and the ability to replay campaign missions. Earlier today, Nat wrote that Halo Infinite’s first season took the worst; Hopefully with Season 2, Infinite finds itself on safer ground.
