Man arrested for allegedly trying to kill developer founders
A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to assassinate the founders of miHoYo, the developers of Genshin Impact. The man was taken into custody by Shanghai police on April 24 after apparently entering the company building armed with a knife. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. According to GameSpot reports, the man was frustrated with a Global Anniversary event that was recently canceled for one of the studio’s other games, Honkai Impact 3rd. This event was the subject of controversy recently, leading miHoYo to cancel it and offer alternative in-game rewards.
The event in question was supposed to be a celebration of the third anniversary of Honkai Impact 3rdglobal version of. According to a Reddit post from Amped-Up-Archos, several fans in China were upset that the game was hosting an event outside of the region. While China has hosted exclusive events in the past, it has led to significant anger from players in the region. Some fans also expressed their irritation over the bunny costumes the characters wore for the tie. As a result of all of this, miHoYo received several death threats and the game was bombed.
It is not known if the man arrested was disappointed that the event was announced in the first place, or if it was canceled, although the former seems more likely than the latter. Whatever the motivation, the incident shows how some gamers take their frustration with gaming. Sadly, death threats are rife in the industry, and many developers have cited similar issues from gamers. over the years.
With the alleged man now in custody and the event canceled, hopefully some of the anger towards the developer subsides and fresher heads prevail. While it’s easy to get frustrated with video games, it’s important to remember that real people create these games and run the social media accounts for them. Earlier this month, former Rare Community Manager Daley Johnson discussed the abuse she and her team suffered Sea of Thieves launched. Ultimately, fans should remember that these are just video games.
