In a review meeting held for GeM (Government E-Marketplace), the Minister of Trade and Industry commended the efforts made by various buyer organizations to increase their purchases through GeM.
Buyers from over 50 central government ministries and 50 CPSEs were invited to get first-hand feedback from buyers.
Goyal said it was necessary to strictly monitor GeM’s supply data and identify any deviant behavior using tools based on Advanced Analytics and AI ML so that immediate and strict action could be taken against it. these deviant behaviors.
The minister stressed the need to change the perception that public procurement is a source of corruption.
He said GeM should be benchmarked against best-in-class rather than benchmarked against other government systems and hoped that the quality of data generated in GeM would help the government improve transparency and efficiency in public procurement. .
The aggregation of demand due to purchases made through a single portal will help reduce the cost of purchases also for government buyers, he added.
GeM has around 61,440 government buyer organizations and around 47.99 Lakh vendors and service providers with a rich list of over 41.44 lakh product offerings and 1.9 lakh service offerings, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Of the industry.
In FY 2021-22, the annual GMV was Rs 1,06,760 crore, a 178% increase from the annual GMV of Rs 38,280 crore recorded in FY 2020-21, according to data shared by the ministry.
All states (except Sikkim) have already signed MoUs with GeM. No less than 239 CPUs are also registered on GeM and making large purchases through the GeM portal.
GeM has taken a host of steps to integrate products from self-help groups (SHGs), tribal communities, artisans, weavers and MSMEs to make the platform more inclusive, the ministry said.
As much as 57% of total activity on GeM came through MSE units and more than 6% came from female entrepreneurs, he said.
GeM also integrates with Panchayati Raj institutions to enable online buying and selling by Panchayats locally.
It is also at an advanced stage of integration with IndiaPost to expand logistics services locally.
GeM SAHAY is another initiative of GeM to help small sellers get credit financing from various integrated lenders against orders received on GeM.
