ESA announces that several new companies have confirmed their participation in E3 this year. the Yakuza developers have unveiled the latest sequel to the spinoff series Judgment, arrives later this year. Resident Evil Village sees record player count and viewership at launch
This week saw the release of Capcom’s survival horror series resident Evil, obviously to record the number of players according to Steam and Twitch analyzes. On the Twitch side, the total launch audience was around 420,000 on launch day alone. Discord enters into partnership with PlayStation
After an apparent Microsoft offer appeared to have failed, Discord made another similar deal that it has already made with Xbox. This week, PlayStation announced via the PlayStation Blog that the platform has entered into an integration deal with Discord. It’s unclear how extensive this integration will be at this time, but the two companies intend to “bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences on console and mobile closer together.”
Discord currently has a similar integration with Xbox, although it is particularly limited. Xbox players can only chat with other Xbox players on Discord, not cross-platform. There’s no indication that PlayStation will do anything other than the same, but Xbox has also already hinted at the possibility of cross-chat integration for Xbox in the future.
Destiny 2 introduces the splicer season in May
The latest seasonal update for Destiny 2 is now confirmed as Season of the Splicer, a very Tron-sque season of science fiction based on a new program decreed by the Vex. The Guardians must defeat the Vex who imposed an “endless night” on The Last City, while teaming up with a Fallen Splicer Mithrax, who commune with machines. The splicer season begins on May 11 and lasts until the end of August, presumably as the penultimate season until The witch queen in 2022.
As for the content roadmap, Season of the Splicer brings with it a new 6 Guardian “Override” activity, the return of the Vault of Glass raid, Solstice of Heroes, as well as the introduction of the transmog (“Armor Synthesis” ). In March, Raymond ended up leaving Stadia as Google shut down all first-party development efforts for the game streaming platform.
Raymond has since formed Haven Studios and partnered with Sony for a PlayStation-exclusive IP address for PS5.
