Ayaneo Next could top the Steam Deck with a Rembrandt AMD Ryzen APU

While everyone is understandably excited about Valve’s Steam Deck, it isn’t the only company keen to capitalize on the burgeoning portable gaming PC market. Fresh out of his first portable gaming PC, the Aya Neo, Ayaneo is set to release a new device, currently known as Ayaneo Next – yes, the names are a bit of a headache.
Ayaneo has been teasing the new device since December 15 and was due to reveal it on December 28. However, “For certain reasons” the company has since pushed back the handheld reveal date to January 4, 2022, which coincides with AMD’s Product Premiere live stream event where we suspect the Red Team will be unveiling their Rembrandt Ryzen APUs .
While there is no official benchmark or specification data for upcoming Ryzen chips, it is likely that the Ayaneo Next will deliver better overall performance than the Steam Deck, given that Valve’s device will use a slightly older Van Gogh APU. Still, we won’t know until we get our hands on both portable gaming PCs.
We don’t yet know how soon Ayaneo plans to launch Ayaneo Next after its official announcement, but it’s entirely possible that we could see the device beat or release at around the same Steam Deck time. This is, of course, provided that Valve doesn’t delay it again, or the ongoing chip shortage doesn’t affect the production of Ayaneo Next more than it probably already is.
It should be mentioned that due to the fact that it is a Windows based machine, Ayaneo Next could offer greater compatibility with applications and video games compared to the Steam Deck. However, a new Proton compatibility milestone suggests that users should safely expect a great experience on either device.
