A trio of games could have a big impact on NHL playoff image – NBC Chicago
With just 11 games left in the regular season, the Chicago Blackhawks find themselves with an incredible opportunity this week, as they face the Nashville Predators in a three-game streak against one of their biggest rivals for a spot. in the Central Division playoffs.
The Blackhawks currently lag the Predators by just two points for that final spot, and they also have a game going against their rivals.
Here’s an update on the Central Division playoff photo heading into the home stretch of the season.
While the top three teams in the division are engaged in a close battle for first place, the battle for fourth place involves three teams, including the Blackhawks.
Here’s where things stand as we approach Monday’s action:
4 Nashville 49 points
5 Chicago 47 points
6 Dallas 46 points
The Blackhawks have one game going against the Predators, with Nashville only having 10 games to play in their season. The Stars have three games going in Nashville, with 13 games to go.
The Blackhawks are set to face Nashville in the first of three straight games on Monday, heading to Bridgestone Arena for the last time this season.
Following Monday’s game, the Blackhawks and Predators will then travel to Chicago, with two more games scheduled for Wednesday and Friday night.
The Blackhawks have two more games against the Stars on May 9 and 10 to wrap up the regular season.
As for Dallas, they will begin a four-game series against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. They have one game left against the Predators, scheduled for May 1, and then the aforementioned last two games against the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks haven’t been thrilled to meet the Predators so far this season, losing all five games to Nashville and getting just two out of 10 possible points.
If the Blackhawks manage to win two of three games, they would potentially be tied with Nashville when the series comes out, and still have the game in hand after the series concludes on Friday.
Anything less would put the Blackhawks in a bind, as they still have a total of six games to play against Tampa Bay, Florida and Carolina, the top three teams in the Central Division.
Getting into that streak and gaining points would be a daunting task for the Blackhawks, who have tried to find more consistent form in recent weeks.
